Glossary Of Terms
An acid-free paper on board or card which has a textured surface.
Conté Crayon
A hard crayon, usually black, brown (terracotta) or red, made of graphite and clay. Named after N J Conté, an 18th Century French chemist.
Bevelled French Mount
A card surrounding the drawing like a frame which has been slightly coloured with a pale wash bordered with two thin lines around a 5mm deep bevel.
Museum Card or Board
Museum quality is acid free and board is thicker than card.
Silhouette
An image of a person in profile, consisting of an outline filled with black. Named (for reasons which are obscure) after Étienne de Silhouette, the French Minister of Finance in 1759.
